They delve into the character's personalities and give them depth. Very quickly, you will become attached to many of their fates.

While the manga was much gorier and had a lot of sex and nudity, the film did not. I feel like it is unfair to criticize though, due to the censorship laws in Japan.

Film has a lot of heavy restrictions in the country, especially if the movie is intended to be shown in theaters. I honestly feel like an even greater….

Fico imaginando o Miike ou o Sono dirigindo um filme desses The original Gantz manga is somewhat of a guilty pleasure for me: it's very schlock with a heavy emphasis on sadism, characters constantly at their lowest while also having a lot of action with tons of gore, graphic violence and a slew of otherworld alien designs that are hard to explain.

I enjoyed a good portion of it, but there were moments where it jumped the shark. This live-action adaptation surprised me: it respects the source material while staying true to its dark atmosphere and tone without being a borderline copycat like a lot of adaptations usually fall as a victim to.

The director manages to framework it to make it suitable for live-action while staying true to the original source material.

Por suerte, esta vez ha salido bien la jugada. This is the best kind of adaptation. What I love about the comic is its sense of mystery. Strange, and often cruel.

But trimming the fat is what benefits this film…. If there's one thing that this film is good for, it's destroy the immersion of those who spent years reading the manga: lousy performances, rushed script, clothes that barely fit the actor, crude weapons, special effects below expectations I wonder if they have profited enough for a sequel.

I'm very glad it tries to keep some more of the disturbing elements of the manga intact than the CG outing, but unfortunately the execution of the rest of the film is a little clumsy.

The first act had me on the edge of my seat with tense, unnerving horror, but the following two thirds were nowhere near as engagingly presented unfortunately, either from a visual standpoint or in any of the performances.

The writing is trying to really build up our attachment to the characters to make us root for them in this death game, but for the most part it just comes off as rather dull and slow paced.

Maybe it's because I know how arresting this material can be that I don't find this adaptation as engrossing as I wanted, but alas, perhaps the riffs on the Gantz story in the sequel will provide something more entertaining.

Gantz Directed by Shinsuke Sato Synopsis After trying to rescue a man on the subway tracks, two teens wake up in a room dominated by a mysterious black sphere that sends them to hunt down and kill aliens hiding on Earth.

As the story progresses, we learn that the sphere is called Gantz. Selected recently deceased are resurrected and are chosen to participate in a long-running game.

Provided with an article of futuristic protective clothing and weaponry, they are transported to somewhere in the city and have to hunt down aliens that are living amongst us.

At the end of each mission, Gantz issues everyone with a score and those who reach are offered a choice of bonuses. The Gantz manga features this special team of people fighting many battles with character development during the downtime.

However, the CGI film focuses specifically on a certain portion of the story.
